Simon and Jude

We commemorate the apostles Simon and Jude (actually Judas, but he’s called Jude to better distinguish him from Judas Iscariot). They are listed among Jesus’ inner circle of disciples.

We know little about these apostles. Simon is listed as “the zealot” or Cananean in New Testament lists. Jude, also called Thaddeus, asked Jesus at the last supper why he had revealed himself to the disciples but not to the world.

O God, we thank you for the glorious company of the apostles, and especially on this day for Simon and Jude. We pray that, as they were faithful and zealous in your mission, so we may with ardent devotion make known the love and mercy of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.
